A big change has taken place in the past few days to our travel plans in Chile. Our visit to the Dakar rally has now taken place by Jan only. Claire along with her other siblings who do not live in Ireland were contacted and advised to return to Ireland on short notice after being informed that their Dad (father) had suddenly become seriously ill with no hope of recovery.
Due to the short notice, we were unable to secure a place to store the MANKAT1 safely and securely, Jan has remained in Chile and hopes to continue onto Calama to see our friends that are participating in the rally.
On Wednesday 9th, Jan dropped Claire at Antofagasta airport and she arrived home late on Thursday evening and has since then, managed to see her Dad before he leaves us all.
Jan, has made it to Calama and met up with the Thursday ‘truck’ category daily winner G. deRooy along with our friends who are competeing. On Friday, they rally members have continued onto Argentina for the next few stages and by mid next week will return to Chile for the last three (3) stages. Jan hopes to meet up with them again in Copiapo.
As Jan is travelling on his own at this moment, i.e. driving and navigating and looking after himself, the time he has to be taking photographs and film of his travels is somewhat limited. So we apologise for the lack of images during this intermediate time. Upon my return to Chile, I hope to upload and install some of the images that he will have captured during my absence.
We will advise you all, when the date for Claire’s return to Chile has been decided upon and when this blog will be updated in full.
