31st August 2013

We are currently in Trujillo, Peru.  As we travel north, the internet access is steadily getting worse. It has taken me all yesterday afternoon and from09:30 hrs this morning till now 15:30 hrs just to load up 7 galleries of photographs into the album page of the blog site.

We have also just discovered that  the route that we took from La Paz heading north now has been hit by very bad snow, so we were very lucky to visit Puno, Cusco and the Peruvian Andes up to and including Huaraz (earlier this week) and manage to reach the pacific coast again and not get snowed in anywhere. In some regions, we heard that it has not snowed there in 30 years and all of a sudden a cold front has hit this huge area.  It transpires quite a few local houses have been destroyed and a lot of the alpaca (llama like animals) have perished with this sudden and unexpected cold front.

A synopsis of our movements for the period from 26th July to the 9th August. Details below and match up to the photo galleries loaded up today. I also apologise that I have not put any captions on any of the photographs due to the slowness of the internet.

Fri: 26.07.2013  – Tiwunaka  … Inca Ruins (Bolivia) Sat: 27.07.2013 – Crossed into Peru at the Desguadero border post

(We could not use the Copacobana route as the camper is too long and heavy and the possibility of sinking the raft as we crossed the lake was too great)

Sat: 27.07.2013 ~ 31.07.2013 – Puno (stayed at a parking place along the Costanera) – we did the 2 day 1 night tour out to the Floating Islands of Uros and also to Amanathi and Tequile islands

Thu: 01.08.2013 – Raqchi Ruins centre (south of Cusco), beautiful place to visit

Fri: 02.08.2013 – Avenida de Cultura – Cusco, as it turns out for the 1st time this month, we had a minor Taxi accident and once again when he hit our car, he ripped the ‘Vigia’ tyre inflation system.  We had to get this fixed up the following morning – when we were mobile again we continued onto the campsite.

Sat: 03.08.2013 ~ 09.08.2013 – Quinta Lala Camping – Cusco (Train journey to Machu Pichu on Thurs 08.08.2013). We also did a bus tour of Cusco city itself and went into the city area most days visiting a variety of places to see.

I hope to load the rest of the photographs and update the blog from the 10th August 2013 to the present day hopefully over the next two weeks if possible.
