24th January 2015

Yes, Hello from Uruguay, where we are now, we arrived here on Thursday 22nd January.

Yes, we flew out from Ireland then from the Netherlands down to Buenos Aires on Sunday/Monday last. From there, we travelled inland to the town of Lobos, where we got the vehicle insurance finalised for the last few months of our trip down here in South America. We have our return sailing back to Antwerp, Belgium booked for an April sailing, to arrive in May 2015.

One very big surprise to us both was that unlike the last time in Argentina, there was not one bank ATM in Lobos that we could get any AGP (Argentinian Peso) money out of, we tried both debit and credit cards, all to no avail…….at the airport we had no problem at all, we were very surprised at this turn of events.

On Wednesday 21st January, we travelled up to Moreno, to visit our excellent friends whom we met at the beginning of our long trip. We spent several hours with them and had a lovely afternoon. In the evening then we continued our journey onto Buenos Aires. We overnighted in a hotel close by the ‘Buquebus’ terminal for the crossing over from Argentina to Uruguay the following day.

We were collected at the ferry terminal by our host and he drove us down to our parking place, where we have the camper stored. For myself, it has been twelve months since I saw our ‘Second Home’ (for Jan only about six months) as he had to come down with my brother-in-law Sean at the end of July to move it out of Argentina as the temporary import certificate was running out, and we could not get it extended.

In general the camper was in fine shape. We had to charge the starter battery and when Jan tried to start it on Friday, it started no problem. We only had one issue really with a leak where there was some minor water damage.

Friday, we spent a good portion of the morning sleeping, in principal catching up as we had been on the go since our arrival lugging about with two pieces of baggage all the time. So a well deserved rest was really appreciated by us both. Part of the day was taken up with routine camper chores along with the earlier part of the day.

We are adjusting here to the ‘siesta’ system again and it is very much in evidence in Uruguay. So, I’ll hopefully get some local photographs and update the gallery as soon as possible.

All the best to all of you, I’ll also upload a photograph of the ‘new look of myself after all the treatment’ I realise some of you are quite surprised at the change ….
